Stop Police Brutality

Reign of Terror

  • Officer Who Kicked Handcuffed Suspect in Head Returning to Work After 24-Hour Suspension
  • "The Fort Lauderdale Police Department is being sued by a citizen who was gruesomely beaten just eight days after testifying against an officer caught on tape beating a homeless man..."

They were brutalized and arrested without just cause:

  • In July of 2009, four women were handcuffed and attacked by Denver cops. They were savagely thrown to the ground, beaten, and pepper sprayed, and they had done nothing to deserve it.
Naturally, the women filed a formal complaint with the department alleging excessive force, and naturally the public and the department believed the cops’ story over the women’s story.
However, two years later, video evidence would surface that proved the officers to be liars and thugs. (source)

They were killed by the police for no reason:
  • Within two seconds of the car’s arrival, Officer Loehmann shot Tamir [Rice] in the abdomen from point-blank range, raising doubts that he could have warned the boy three times to raise his hands, as the police later claimed. And when Tamir’s 14-year-old sister came running up minutes later, the officers, who are white, tackled her to the ground and put her in handcuffs, intensifying later public outrage about the boy’s death. When his distraught mother arrived, the officers also threatened to arrest her unless she calmed down, the mother, Samaria Rice, said. (source)
  • The city medical examiner has ruled the death of Eric Garner, the 43-year-old father whose death in police custody sparked national outrage, a homicide, saying a chokehold killed him.
The medical examiner said compression of the neck and chest, along with Garner's positioning on the ground while being restrained by police during the July 17 stop on Staten Island, caused his death.

...An amateur video taken during Garner's arrest shows a plainclothes police officer placing him in what appears be a chokehold, which is banned under NYPD policy. In the video, Garner can be heard multiple times gasping, "I can't breathe!" (source)

  • A judge on Monday acquitted a Chicago police commander accused of shoving his gun down a suspect's throat, outlining what she said were flaws in the state's case and stressing that it shouldn't be conflated with other recent cases of alleged police misconduct that have come to the fore in Chicago and elsewhere.
